A century of music
Blue Hooz has a deep interest in where music has come from. Our repertoire spans 100 years of the evolution of music in America, starting with the Delta blues and Tin Pan Alley traditions, following the musical river as it flows to modern blues, classic rock, country rock, folk and eclectic selections that cross genres. With attention to the harmonies of the vocals as well as the instruments, Blue Hooz creates a cohesive experience of the music.
Russ Zinser
Russ first picked up a guitar at 16 and has played and sung in folk, rock, and blues bands ever since. Influenced by music of the 50s and 60s, he is especially attracted to songs with multiple harmonies. Russ is also a songwriter and a home recording enthusiast. Russ sings lead vocals and harmonies.
Stan Sewitch
Stan has been in performing bands since 1997—Ms. Julia and the Blue Cats, Rhino and now Blue Hooz since 2010. His musical interests range across genres, including blues from all eras, classic rock, Latin rock, country rock, alternative rock, folk, bluegrass and jazz. Stan plays the diatonic harmonica. He sings lead vocals and harmonies.
Joe Kievit
Joe started out as a drummer at age 13 in a Surf Rock band. He switched to bass guitar a few years later and has played in several San Diego rock bands including The Midnight Shift, Size 84, The Cory Wilkins Band, Blue Rhino and now Blue Hooz. His musical passions are classic blues, 50’s and 60’s rock and western swing.
Music for the moment
Blue Hooz is an acoustic trio, with a range of music to fit a variety of events, settings and venues. With guitar, bass and harmonica, the effect can be as soft or driving as is suitable for the type of audience—background mood music for cocktail parties or anniversary celebrations, getting dancers on the floor at a party or club, festival performances to engage and excite, and intimate settings where music lovers can immerse themselves.
